Job Description:

Summary Position
Regional managers in the construction industry plans, controls, and coordinate civil engineering or building projects, including the resources and the people in the business. One of his responsibilities is to travel out of town for work on projects, source materials and equipment, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Consult with clients, building professionals, local councils and architects
  • Estimate the number of workers, types of machinery and materials required, hire workers and apprentices and liaise with subcontractors
  • Estimate prices and put in tenders for jobs
  • Plan building programmes and co-ordinate supplies of materials and machinery
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures; plan, establish, and monitor health and safety systems.
  • Establish and implement traffic management and environmental plans
  • An understanding of quality control systems; to work with project managers and quantity surveyors to ensure costs are kept within budget.
  • Knowledge of building methods and materials
  • Skill interpreting drawings and architectural plans
  • An understanding of building standards and safety regulations
  • Math’s skills, and knowledge of cost control and purchasing
  • Administrative and business skills.

Job Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and action the regional strategy
  • Coach, develop and motivate the team 
  • Create opportunities to add value to scaffolding and shrink wrapping operations through innovative solutions and an expansion of service offerings of the team and wider business
  • Work with the General Manager to identify market needs, risks and opportunities to enhance the business unit’s national profile
  • Operational management of region to deliver on quality, growth and revenue generation targets
  • Provide technically and commercially superior advice to clients through direct and team interaction
  • Identify networking connections and commercial relationships with regulatory agencies, local professional bodies and other external consultancies

MUST BE:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership position.
  • Industry knowledge in Surveying, Engineering, Planning or Environmental Science.
  • To maintain full membership in either the New Zealand Surveyors, Engineering or Planning Institutes (NZIS, IPENZ, NZPI).
  • In excess of 10 years’ experience post-degree in contract and project management.
  • The ability to influence and sustain relationships with staff, customers, and contractors.
  • Experience in human resources principles and practices including personnel management and development.
  • The ability to understand new issues and technology and to make a sound judgment on them.
  • A can-do, problem-solving attitude and to lead by example.
  • Passionate about making a difference for NZ
  • Proven capability in managing budgets, forecasting and the complexity of large technical or business projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience leading professional staff ideally within a consultancy practice
  • Sound understanding of environmental legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Highly collaborative and enabling by nature and practice
