Our client is committed to providing the highest quality and innovative machines and tools for air cargo, general transportation, materials handling and pipe tools industries, including the plumbing, drainage and water solutions sector.  With almost 50 years’ experience, and ultising superior design and advanced engineering capabilities, their products today are hard at work on land, in the air, and on the sea, serving all phases of the material handling industry.

On their behalf, we are looking for an experienced Senior Purchasing  and Procurement Officer, to join their ranks and add value to the business.  This is a sole charge role, which  could be described as a Purchasing & Procurement Manager, but with no staff reports.
You will be entirely responsible for all company purchasing related functions, ensuring all production and sales requirements are met and inventory levels are maintained. 

With a number of recent changes in the business (acquisition of a new business/new ERP system implementation) this is a very exciting time be joining this company. There is plenty of work to be done, and the role is not without its challenges, but will suit someone who is looking to grow in responsibility and has a hunger to make an impact on a business.

Day to Day duties include:

  • Monitor stock levels and determine best quantities for ordering
  • Place purchase orders on both local and overseas suppliers and follow through to fulfilment of the order
  • Proactive management of all exceptions, including: backorders, overdue Purchase Orders, over / undersupply by Supplier
  • Manage the expediting of all offshore orders including: management of all shipping documentation
  • Working with all internal departments, to forecast stock levels, and around stock replenishment issues.
  • Liaise with supplier to maintain consistent stock levels on hand and manage expected delivery dates
  • Anticipate and resolve any quality issues that may arise and revolve with suppliers and if necessary arranging replacement products
  • Following up with suppliers over outstanding orders, short supplies, any supply issues that may arise
  • Engaging and negotiating with suppliers on all matters of price, lead time, quality and forecast for finished product.

Role Development

  • Take on further responsibilities in purchasing, inventory management and analysis.
  • Evaluating suppliers, ensuring they meet their obligations. 
  • Performance analysis on time delivery, quality and cost savings.
  • Look at ways to improve the business relationship.
  • Investigating and sourcing new product and suppliers.
  • Identify ways to improve and enhance processes and create efficiencies
  •  Proactively developing and implementing strategic plans
  • Working with a new ERP system to ensure optimum process effectiveness

About You:

  • A strong understanding of all Supply Chain - Procurement/ Purchasing  processes
  • Experience working with both local and offshore Suppliers and Freight Forwarders
  • Effective communication with both suppliers and the internal team alike.
  • Effective negotiation skills
  • Be process driven, super organised, strong time management and prioritisation skills  
  • Lateral thinker – Adopting a “can-do”, solution focused attitude to work through any issue
  • Good planning and scheduling capabilities.
  • Knowledge of ERP computer software and processes. (Sage)
  • Experience collecting, analysing data, report writing and documentation.
  • Ideally have completed a tertiary qualification in Supply Chain / Logistics and / or Procurement.
