To enhance the learning and qualification outcomes of Massey's students and the scholarly outputs of the University by undertaking an effective programme of teaching; undertaking research including research supervision of students; engaging in the pursuit of external funding; providing administrative and professional service to the University and broader academic or professional communities, developing a programme of co-curricular activities to enhance experiential learning.
There are three fields of contribution that are expected:
1) Teaching and supervision;
2) Research and enterprise;
3) Academic citizenship.
The level of appointment will be assessed on whether the applicant demonstrates ‘sustained contribution’ for Lecturer, ‘making a substantial contribution to’ for Senior Lecturer Level 1, ‘advancing or leading’ for Senior Lecturer Level 2’ and ‘sustained distinction’ for Associate Professor in the following three fields.
Teaching and Supervision
• Provide leadership in curriculum innovation in Building Technology (Senior Lecturer & Associate Professor);
• Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and coordination as required. This may include block mode/campus/regional courses on a different campus to where you are normally situated and use of the designated Learning Management System;
• Develop and teach major curriculum components of courses, in conjunction with colleagues in the Cluster (i.e. discipline group);
• Undertake continuing personal professional development activities consistent with maintaining excellence in teaching and supervision;
• Coordinate and administer the teaching of subjects, which includes participating in the University’s formal procedures of evaluating teaching and course delivery;
• Contribute to the development of a supportive environment for Construction students and develop strategies for retention and achievement of Construction programmes from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Research and Enterprise
• Develop an active, appropriate and viable personal research programme and/or participate in team-based research;
• Provide research leadership to the Cluster (Senior Lecturer & Associate Professor);
• Engage with industry to address their research needs;
• Publish papers or other scholarly works in academic journals and review papers;
• Generate research funding;
• Supervise the research activities of graduate and undergraduate students and assist in the supervision of students/research projects at a postgraduate level;
• Work collaboratively with colleagues.
Academic Citizenship
• Supporting colleagues and mentoring junior staff (Senior Lecturer & Associate Professor);
• Participate in community service activities that further advance the profession or field and which are consistent with the University’s Charter and Strategic Plan;
• Assist the School to develop an environment that gives effect to the obligations of the Treaty of Waitangi;
• Serve on University and/or Institute Committees;
• Ensure the observance of University policy and codes of practice in all teaching, research, community service and administrative practices;
• Contribute to the development of an Institute working environment of teamwork and cooperation.
Any other duties as required by the Head of School or Cluster Leader.
