Based in in Auckland's CBD, our client is a long established, privately owned investment business. Having identified an opportunity to enhance their investment business by establishing a critical senior team role, in 2019, they committed to appoint an Executive Business Support, to add value to the full function of the business. 

This position has been created with an end goal in mind, of you eventually running the business operation!  (This will take a few years of learning and lots of hard work). Initially, you will be providing Executive Support to the Director, as you assist him in running the day-to-day operations of the business.

In the early days of the role, you will be learning the ropes, and over time, and with your dedication to immerse yourself in the business, you will take on more and more responsibility. As you do this, you will begin to carve out your future role within the business……….. and an amazing career opportunity for yourself as a Business Person!

You will take a lead role within the small office-based team, to ensure that the business functions effectively. The Director travels a lot and during his absence, he especially needs to rely on someone who is very hands-on and is involved in the operation in all aspects. The Director will be always available for you to consult, no further than a phone call away.

At all other times, you will be assisting the Director in all aspects of running the business. He will impart his knowledge and ideas amassed over many years and you will help to action them and proactively get things done. You will also have the opportunity to start adding value with your own contributions to the business operation.

We see this position being suitable for someone who is most likely from a private enterprise background and ideally will already have experience in adding value to the business operation of the previous employer businesses.


You should bring more than an intermediate-level accountingunderstanding. While we are not trying to attract an Accountant, we need someone who will understand the accounting function and willbring a strong financial sense. We are also not trying to attract an EA, but you will need to have first rate executive support skills and a have desire to bring value to the Director and make his life at work easier.

Duties in the primary phase of this role will involve:

  • Providing senior level executive support to the Director
  • Learning about all the functions in the business, including the accounting and business management function
  • Gaining exposure to a broad range of investment strategies and practices
  • Developing the skills to create and develop new ideas / positions
  • Adding value to all functions of the business.
  • Overseeing the office-based functions (Accounting / Administration)
  • Developing and implementing effective operational systems
  • Managing & guiding projects in other areas of the business, as required
  • Building relationships with business partners to support the business


Qualities & Experience you will bring:

  • A demonstrable understanding of financial matters and how these impact on a business
  • Business savvy. Understands how a business operates and will bring value to the team
  • Proven ability to evaluate information, problem solve and offer potential solutions
  • Verifiable expertise in I.T, strong MS Office skills. Superior administration skills
  • In-dept understanding of accounting functions and tonnes of money sense
  • Strong desire and ability to add value
  • Proactive. Self-managing. Efficient
  • An interest in business, investments and making money / financial performance
  • Strategic / lateral thinking and well-developed analytical ability
  • Comfortable in a small office team environment
  • Previous business support experience of at least 8 years.
