Job Description:

Leading Care. Right Here.

As part of our on-going commitment to improve health outcomes for our community we are leading the way and have now completed an innovative new acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit based at Middlemore Hospital. This will support our service users and their family/whaanau, who require an inpatient stay for the treatment of mental health issues. The new inpatient unit will be the first of its kind in New Zealand and will be equipped to assist us to provide better care for our community.  The new building maximizes natural light and has safe inner garden courtyards and therapeutic areas.

The new model of care will be guided by some of the following principles and philosophies of care:
  • Putting the person at the centre and recognising that whaanau/partners in care need to be actively involved
  • Culturally appropriate
  • Ensuring that needs will be met in a safe, welcoming environment that is free from judgement
Be part of this transformation that provides sanctuary, rest and inspires hope as service-users and whaanau migrate towards independence and the fulfilment of their aspirations.

We are now looking for a NZ Registered Mental Health Nurse with a depth of experience and strong nursing skills to provide effective acute inpatient treatment which reflects recovery principles incorporating patient centred carer support whilst maintaining a safe environment.

Already we have made some significant changes in the way we work, which are having a positive impact on service user experience.  Our focus is on developing strong multidisciplinary teams who work within an integrated model of care in conjunction with the community services and we believe that our nurses are at the heart of these teams.

This is a great opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of people in the Counties Manukau Health area while developing your own personal and professional practice, along with a chance to work in this brand new facility there will also be opportunity for professional development and a chance to experience a broad range of clinical challenges.

Essential:
  • NZ Registered Comprehensive or Psychiatric Nurse
  • Current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Extensive knowledge of mental illness & treatment interventions
  • Minimum 2 year post registration experience within Mental Health
  • Full & Clean NZ Driver's Licence
  • Previous experience within a community mental health setting (desirable)
