Youth Worker|Mentor- Team Leadership opportunity

If you are a mature and confident person with a heart for our vulnerable youth and want to work at an amazing organisation then keep reading! You are resilient, pro-active and have an experience helping young people to build their character and develop their life skills. You may have worked in residential services, led youth programmes, managed sports teams, led mentorship program or provided leadership to young boys in a relevant setting. If you are a natural and empathetic leader who can support boys with complex and challenging behaviour, this role is for you.

What you will do

You will be part of our leadership team in our boys teaching group home, Te Whare Tumanako O Kia Puawai, based in Manurewa. Our home uses the Teaching Family Model (TFM) to help young people reach their potential and equip them with the skills they need to be successful at school and within the wider community. Our home supports up to five boys on long term placements with Care and Protection needs. You will also:

  • Run house meetings, coach and develop staff.
  • Assist young people to develop and practice skills including, behaviour management, communication, coping and problem-solving skills.
  • Assist with the day to day running of the home and basic house administration
  • Carry out sleepovers in the home as needed (allowance will be paid)
  • Work on a rotating roster of AM and PM shifts on Thursday/Friday and a double on the Saturday

Of particular importance is our valuing of diversity and our commitment to our bi-cultural journey. You will have a genuine appreciation for how we integrate Māori and Pasifika kaupapa into our daily working life. You must have a full and clean New Zealand driver's licence and must be able to obtain a clear Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and Police vetting check. Please note that this role is part-time role (32 hours with the potential to pick up extra shifts).
