Distinction Te anau Hotel and Villas currently have an exciting position available within our Food and Beverage Team - Assistant Restaurant Manager

We are looking for individuals with strong operational experience, including the ability to multitask while remaining a strong team player and coach.
Sharing a passion for each others success, being effective in everything you do and drive the culture which is already in place is vital to be successful in this role.
Good  financial acumen and ability to manage costs, especially payroll and drive F&B revenue and retentions


We do have a distinct seasonal nature to the business, with very busy high seasons and reasonably quiet low seasons where we request all staff take their annual leave each year between May to September.

Job Requirements:

  • To coordinate and communicate in a professional and ethical manner with colleagues assisting where necessary to develop team spirit and to achieve standards of work and guest care as required by company.
  • Support with administration and operational duties for the Food & Beverage department as requested
  • To attend briefings/meetings as requested and to recognise the importance of new ideas and initiatives to the overall success of the operation.
  • Assist Banquets Team when required.
  • To report any operational concerns to the Head of Department responsible for the department concerned.
  • Maintain all department equipment to the correct standard. Submit a request of any items required with quotes to the General Manager for approval.
  • A positive and professional appearance and attitude in all dealings with both internal & external customers
  • With each conference & event, check room & requirements, making sure everything is in working order, prior to clients arrive. Meet & Liaise with conference organisers / PCO’s and confirm daily timings. Follow up with catering to make sure each session is organised in a timely manner. Organise an appropriate substitute in your absence, advise the General Manager when this occurs.
  • You may be required to represent Distinction Hotels at trade shows, seminars & promotional activities / events as required
  • Report to your HOD, to address all suggestions and / or concerns raised with yourself by team members or customers
  • Ensures that all service processes are customer driven and exceeding expectations
  • Be customer focused; be present for the client from beginning to end of conference or event.
  • Ensure all accounts are generated and transactions are posted on the day of use and are correct & balance
  • Invoicing clients is actioned with 24 hours of completion of the conference event
  • Ensure expenses for Sales, Functions, promotions and activities stay within budgeted guidelines & cost of sale in line with budget, obtaining approval from Senior Management
  • Assist with Budget / Forecast process as required
  • Anticipates customer trends and expectations and shares this analysis with the team, seeking to find new ways to meet the challenges and exceed expectations
  • Resolves customer complaints with a positive outcome and ensures the whole team learns from the situation
