About the opportunity 

This is a 12 month contract to cover maternity leave. You will be responsible for creating and delivering internal and external communications strategies to help position Bupa New Zealand as a leader in aged care and retirement living and related services. This includes accountability for Public Affairs, Media Relations and Corporate Communications (including issues management), Internal Communications and Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability.

A member of Bupa NZ’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the role leads the Bupa NZ Corporate Affairs team. Key responsibilities will require the successful candidate to:

  • Display outstanding values, culture and team leadership (including employee engagement and development), making Bupa a place where people love to work. 
  • Lead the government and public affairs approach for BVAC NZ. Provide executive-level strategic internal and  external communications advice to Bupa NZ senior management, project teams, the A&NZ Market Unit and Bupa globally where required. 
  • Lead internal communications approach for BVAC NZ.
  • Protect and promote the positive reputation of Bupa in the NZ marketplace through an external affairs approach (including issues management).

Your background 

  • Strong leadership and breadth in corporate affairs/communications/public affairs.
  • Experience in a large domestic or global company with exposure to team leadership and matrix organisational      structures.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at senior leadership level and role model      the Bupa values.
  • Sound executive-level strategic thinking and judgement and strong attention to detail.
  • Composure and agility when dealing with issues management inspiring confidence internally and externally.
  • Cultural change agent embracing  experimentation, showing not telling, with a bias towards action.
  • Strong negotiation skills and diplomacy and the ability gain the active co-operation of others in the business.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and relationship building skills.
  • Background in, and knowledge of the health/aged care industry preferable.
