Our client is a very well established and reputable Kiwi owned flooring company.

With over 60 years of timber flooring experience within this small, family owned business, our client imports, manufactures/finishes and sells a large range of wood, laminate and cork flooring products New Zealand wide.

Unfortunately their current staff member in this important role is moving down south to Taranaki to be closer to family. Although he leaves with our best wishes and it will be disappointing to see him go, this opens the door for a lucky job seeker to join this small, hard-working, friendly and successful team.

Although after induction & an initial training period the role will be largely sole charge, you will also work closely with the owners and office/admin team on a regular basis. Along with responsibility for all standard warehousing operations, a large and critical aspect of this role is the partial fabricating and/or finishing various cork, wooden, laminate or ceramic flooring products for sale and dispatch. This is extremely important as your attention to detail and the quality of the finish can be the difference between a happy client and a very costly returned order!

Prior warehouse/storeman experience is preferred, along with some form of trade, fabrication, machine operating experience. Prior hands-on experience in one or more of the following would be helpful but not mandatory: painting, lacquering, sanding, machining, buffing, cabinet-making, woodworking, carpentry or similar. That said, full training and support will be provided.

Our current team member has to leave in early January and so we are very keen to fill this position URGENTLY but we need the 'right' person with the right abilities, attitude and team fit.

Although we're open minded, this key role will likely suit a mature, reliable and responsible person is genuine, fit, healthy, flexible, hard-working, has a very strong attention to detail, is able to self-manage and prioritise, is friendly and customer focused, enjoys dealing with internal and external people, has a can-do attitude, is a good multi-tasker, good with their hands and takes pride in their work!

The regular tasks & responsibilities include:
  • Picking/packing of all orders for pick-up;
  • Ensure compliance with all OSH and MPI requirements;
  • Monthly stock-takes;
  • Occasional sales/order enquiries;
  • Open and inspect all inbound shipments as per MPI regulations;
  • Maintain MPI approved equipment as per MPI requirements;
  • Calculation & management of raw materials to produce orders;
  • Fabricating and finishing cork & wood flooring products including beveling of planks & tiles, pre-gluing cork tiles, colour coating by both hand & machine, colour matching, colour mixing of oils & ploy and then the application of the correct colours and product to the cork or wood flooring;
  • Alerting management of any problems associated with colouring and/or production;
  • Loading and unloading of orders;
  • Production of samples and colour swatches for customers

The person we're seeking will likely have:
  • Minimum 2+ years working in a stores/warehousing role;
  • Mature, reliable and responsible;
  • Good English - verbal and written;
  • Good understanding of inventory & warehousing processes;
  • Reasonable computer skills;
  • Strong time management & multi-tasking;
  • Good thinker, not easily flustered;
  • Very good attention to detail & ability to work with hands (eg. finishing, oiling, coating cork and wooden flooring);
  • Looking for good, long term position;
  • Reliable transport & living locally;
  • Able to regularly lift boxes of up to 30kgs & as such be reasonably physically fit, strong and healthy;
  • Current and clean fork hoist license held (or obtainable);
  • Current MPI certification preferred

This role is ready to start almost immediately but we will wait if notice must be given to existing employers. Hours are 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday with almost zero need for weekend work, nights or overtime.
