For over five decades, We Can has built its reputation as a CNC machine shop that design and make critical engineering parts and assemblies for a wide range of customers, from large processors and manufacturers, to smaller specialist industries throughout New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific and United States. One-off designs are our specialty.
Due to recent growth, we are now seeking the services of an additional programmer / machinist, reporting to our Operations Manager. This role will be full time, minimum 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, time and a half for overtime, which may include work over the weekend, and $1.00 per hour tool allowance, there is also health insurance offered. There is a bonus pay for evening/night work.

The Principle accountabilities and standards of measure/expectation are:
Machinist duties
- Understand our customers’ expectations, then develop the best methods for We Can to deliver on those expectations.
- Program, set and run components.
- Work as part of a team
- Various administration procedures are complied with particularly with regard to job sheets
- Minimize rework and wastage
- 5S
- Whatever else is required to ensure all jobs delivered to our customers meet or exceed their expectations.
Machinery and Equipment use
- Machinery and equipment is operated appropriately as per manufacturer’s instructions/specifications.
- Machinery and equipment is well maintained and correctly stored when not in use.
Teamwork
- Effective working relations with the wider team are established and maintained
- Team members are supported through with work as necessary
- Team meetings are attended as required
Health and safety is supervised effectively to minimise exposure to harm
- You work safely at all times and follow We Can’s policies and procedures
- Effective Health & Safety procedures are in operation and associated records are maintained.
- Hazards are identified and managed effectively.
- Avoidable accidents are prevented.
- Accidents and incidents are reported and recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
Perform other duties as required
- You may be required to operate multiple machines dependent on the complexity of the work.

CRITICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
- Proven knowledge & experience of CNC machining
- Proven skills in the interpretation of engineering drawings/designs, and the understanding of specifications
- Understanding of Engineering standards and code regulations
- Sound communication skills
- Planning and organisational skills
- Knowledge of Health and Safety obligations and safety consciousness
- Ability to manage self and prioritise effectively
- Flexible and adaptable

We have a well equipped work shop covering turning, milling, gear hobbing, gear shaping, surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, broaching, wire cutting, multitasking, 5 axis CNC milling and designing. The work is wide and varied.

Job requirements
Minimum qualifications are 3 years experience with completion of an Apprenticeship and/or Trade Certificate preferred.
