JCL Asphalt is a growing and dynamic business specialising in Asphalt, Chipseal and civil construction. For the last 18 years, we pride ourselves on Quality, Service and Health & Safety and are committed to raising the standard in the surfacing industry. With more than 70 staff across 3 branches (Queenstown, Cromwell & Chch) we are looking for an HR/Recruitment & compliance expert to join our Queenstown team.

The Role:

This is a full-time, permanent position which reports to the Branch Manager. You responsibilities will include;

  • A strong focus on recruitment and onboarding for all temporary and permanent positions in the region (advertising/marketing campaigns, interviewing, references, inductions etc)
  • Drafting all HR Documentation relating to employees (IEA's, disciplinary & performance, training)
  • Accurate recording and storing of all employee information including updating policies and register's
  • Assisting Managers and Supervisors in achieving HR Strategies for their crews (training/growth & development, culture, health & wellness, performance etc)
  • Motivate, engage and be there as general support for ground staff by building relationships through regular site visits
  • Lead staff engagement initiatives (career, financial, mental health, wellness, team building etc)
  • Attend regular H&S meetings and understand business KPI's
  • Ensure branch KPI's are being met and H&S compliance is being achieved for the region (eg: incidents are closed out and actioned, pre-quals for clients are completed, quality documentation is recorded for jobs, plant & machinery checks are being done etc)
  • General administration and calendar management
  • Other tasks

About you:

Ideally you will have a proven track record in a HR/Recruitment and Health & Safety role in a similar industry and be able to hit the ground running. Your 'people' skills and positive attitude will see you quickly build relationships across the branch and you won't be afraid to put your boots & hard hat on. Your ability to efficiently prioritise your workload coupled with your eye for detail and accurate record keeping will see you as the preferred candidate.
