Our Deep-Water Fleet operate out of Timaru. Our fleet includes deep-sea trawlers, scampi vessels and long liners which target fisheries both in NZ and as far away as the Ross Sea.

The Opportunity: This is an independent contractor (self-employment) opportunity onboard the San Aotea II, one of Sanford's Deep Water Longliner Fishing Vessels where, as mate you will be responsible for supporting the Skipper to lead the at sea operation and management of the vessel and crew to produce high quality NZ Seafood.

You will have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and the ability to build an engaged and high performing team. With proven experience, knowledge and success predominantly in the Toothfish and Ling fisheries, you will excel in passing on this knowledge to others through education and hands on training.

Required:

• MFV or equivalent
• Current Maritime Medical
• A values led approach of care, passion, and integrity in everything you do
• The ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the operation
• The ability to adapt quickly and positively to change and to bring people on a change journey
• An understanding and compliance to all relevant NZ Legislation including MOSS, HSWA, Fisheries Act/regulation and MPI food safety
• Experience operating in the Ross Sea would be advantageous
• Experience with longlining operations of a vessel of this size and complexity
• An active and engaged management approach towards Health, Safety and Wellbeing outcomes and culture
• An understanding of and experience in General Management, Reporting and Computer Skills
• Leadership skills to run a 24 hour/day complex operation with a diverse workforce
• A passion for playing your part in delivering high quality NZ seafood to the world
