About the Company

Our client is a leading subcontractor for construction companies across New Zealand.  Specialising in Formwork, Concrete and Precast Erection, they have executed a diverse range of projects with leading contractors across the commercial construction space. 

About the Position 

As General Manager you will have total responsibility, with a committed management team, in areas including profitability, growth and delivery of services to clients.   

The successful person will develop and execute plans to deliver revenue, profit, and growth targets, whilst delivering business process improvements and providing all employees with a safe working environment.

Objectives will be achieved by providing leadership (10-12 direct reports) and direction to the larger (60-80) team across all projects.

The Role

  • Assisting in the preparation of Budget, Business Plans and Monthly Forecasts
  • Building and maintaining an effective and motivated management team that is strongly profit and client orientated
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of existing and future customer needs, including maintaining an understanding of market ‘drivers’ and broader industry environment
  • Working with the Commercial Manager to review job selection, pricing and tendering
  • Providing strategic direction that will underpin business success
  • Setting direction, and developing goals, plans and strategies for managing profit and growth

About you

  • 15 + years’ NZ experience in the vertical construction industry, or similar 
  • 5 + years comparable industry-based leadership experience
  • Proven experience in managing technical teams, within a medium sized organisation.
  • Successful management of profit & loss statements.
  • Adept leadership and people management skills, with the ability to influence and drive high performing teams.
  • Customer focused, success in driving sustainable business growth, cultivating, and managing key client relations.
  • A degree in an Engineering (construction related subject) would be desirable
